A Court of Thorns and Roses series is a series of books by Sarah J. Maas that retells multiple fairy tales including Beauty and the Beast and Hades and Persephone with faerie lore.

It was most likely inspired by the so-called “first Scottish fairytale”, The Border ballad. This ballad tells the tale of Tam Lin, a knight who gets captured by the queen of fairies while hunting. The trilogy focuses on the tale of Feyre Archeron, as she is brought into the faerie lands of Prythian, after murdering a faerie.

Synopsis: When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world.

At least, he’s not a beast all the time.

As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

“There you are. I’ve been looking for you. Thank you for finding her for me.”

“To the people who look at the stars and wish, Rhys.”
Rhys clinked his glass against mine. “To the stars who listen— and the dreams that are answered.”

A Court of Mist and Fury

“He thinks he’ll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out.”

A Court of Mist and Fury

“I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we were allowed to have… the wait was worth it.”

A Court of Wings and Ruin

“His eyes gleamed, and he buried his face between my breasts again, hands caressing my back. “I love you,” he breathed. “More than life, more than my territory, more than my crown.”
